Summer Bodies are Made in Winter

Now that the dark nights are setting in and it’s getting colder, it can be hard to stay motivated enough to stop at the gym on the way home. We’re also coming to the season of Toffee Nut Lattes and Mince Pies so it’s easy to see why people do fall out of their healthy routines.

However, summer soon comes around and despite what all of those magazines say, you cannot get toned and ready for your holiday in four weeks.  Any professional will tell you that a healthy, toned body is the result of hard work and a disciplined approach. We’ve put together these five tips to help you stay motivated through the cold weather.

  1. Routine
    Did you know that it takes at least thirty days for a routine to become a habit?
    The best way to stick to your exercise routine is to make a schedule and constantly stick to it. Consistency is key!
  2. Diet
    The cold weather can affect your energy levels and appetite. It may be tempting to constantly eat comfort foods but your body won’t thank you come summertime. Make sure you stick to a healthy and nutritious diet. Be sure to add plenty of root vegetables and broccoli to keep up on your vitamins.
  3. Set Goals
    Don’t expect an instantly toned body. These things take time and if you’ve not managed to stick to a routine before, it may be hard to keep motivated. Make sure your goals are realistic. If you aren’t an experienced runner, don’t try to do a daily five-mile run. Build it slowly at your pace.
  4. Ask for Help
    If there’s a certain area of your body that you want to focus on, ask a member of our gym staff for advice on how to tackle it. You may be doing the wrong exercise or be missing a way to improve. Better yet…book a personal training session to develop a full exercise plan suited to you.
  5. Keep Going
    With the holiday season coming up, you’re more than likely to have a blow out at Christmas dinner or enjoy a few glasses of wine at your office party. That’s okay! Just make sure that you don’t fall back into old habits and don’t punish yourself or your body for an occasional treat.
