Double Wimbledon Champion joins stellar line-up featuring eight of world’s top 10 players 

Wimbledon hero and fan favourite, Petra Kvitova will kick off her return to grass court tennis at this year’s Aegon Classic Birmingham at Edgbaston Priory Club, June 17-25th. The two time Wimbledon Champion returned to tennis at Roland Garros, less than six months after suffering a serious injury to her left hand inflicted by an intruder at her home in the Czech Republic.

The Czech star made an emotional return to competition defeating Julia Boserup 6-3 6-2 in the first round at the French Open and will be featuring for the third time in her career on the Birmingham grass courts after accepting a wild card for the main draw.

Speaking to British Tennis Kvitova said: “Birmingham will be my first tournament back on my favourite grass courts so I’m really excited to accept this wild card and to play in front of the great British fans.”

“My preparation for Wimbledon will be extra important as I continue my comeback so I’m glad that I will be playing at a fantastic tournament with a very strong field.”

This year’s event at the Edgbaston Priory Club boasts the strongest line-up of players in the tournament’s history, spearheaded by British No 1 Johanna Konta and World No. 1 Angelica Kerber. Eight of the World’s Top Ten female players will do battle over the course of week in what will be an extraordinary showcase of top class women’s sport right in the heart of The Midlands.
