Edgbaston Priory Club is celebrating an outstanding season for its tennis teams with six teams winning Aegon Team Tennis titles and a record number of promotions in local and regional leagues.

Sponsored by Calthorpe Estates, the Club now fields over 80 teams, in local, regional and national leagues and competitions, ranging from Under-8 to Over-60 with many featuring aspiring or former professional players.

The successes for the Club this year include:

• The Under-14 Boys’ Team who are National Champions
• The Ladies First Team who won the Regional Division in the National League and finished fourth in the National Finals.
• The Ladies First Team who won the Birmingham League and the Warwickshire League
• The Men’s team who won the Midlands Open Title
• The Under-16 boys and girls’ team who won their division

The Club are also the Metro Champions and the Spring and Winter league Champions.

Racquets Manager, Leyla Ogan, who is a former top 500 player herself and competed at Junior Wimbledon, is proud of the Club’s outstanding achievements, commented:

“This year’s success is the result of many years hard work in developing the coaching programme and the matchplay opportunities for players of all ages. Many of our players who have enjoyed success this year learned to play as a child at the Club and it’s really great to see them compete at this level.

“Anyone who has watched the Davis Cup matches this year, cannot help but notice the great team spirit that exists. It is exactly the same at local and county level. It’s very rewarding to be part of a team that encourages and motivates you to do your best. And in that sense I am as proud of the teams that have been promoted from the lowest divisions as I am of those winning national titles.”

Mark Lee, Chief Executive of Calthorpe Estates who sponsor the adult teams and whose support is vital to the success of the teams, said:

“We are proud to support Team Tennis at Edgbaston Priory Club which provides opportunities for members of all ages to enjoy all the camaraderie that comes from being part of a team. Congratulations to all those who played their part in making this year such a successful one for the Club.”
