Briton Katy Dunne has reached the main draw of the Aegon Classic after beating the No.2 qualifying seed, Timea Babos 6-2, 7-6(4).
Nineteen-year-old Dunne came back from 4-0 down in the second set to claim a victory in what she calls her biggest win yet: “I have no idea how I did that. I just stayed calm, [Babos] put a few sloppy errors in, there were a couple of returns that she missed and I just took advantage and managed to get the break when she was serving for it.”
Katy now joins British No.2 Heather Watson who recently broke back into the world’s top 100, in the main draw. She joins fellow Britons, Johanna Konta and Naomi Broady, who received wild cards into the main draw.
The main draw gets underway on Monday 9th June with a strong field including top seed and World No.12, Ana Ivanovic, Australian former French Open champion Sam Stosur and last year’s winner, Daniela Hantuchova. The top eight seeds have received a bye into the second round.
Play is scheduled to start at 11am on Monday 9th June and you can view the order of play here.
