Reigning French Open champion and former Wimbledon runner-up Garbiñe Muguruza added her name to the growing list of stars set to compete at this year’s Aegon Classic Birmingham.
Murguruza, the World No.6, is one of four Top Ten players set to compete on the immaculate grass courts of the Edgbaston Priory Club from 17-25th June. Great Britain’s Johanna Konta (7), defend-ing Birmingham champion Madison Keys (10) and former Roland Garros runners-up Simona Halep (5) and Lucie Safarova (28) have all signed up to play.
“I’m really happy to come back to Birmingham,” said Muguruza, who won the doubles title with Carla Suarez Navarro on her last visit to Birmingham in 2015. “I have some fantastic memories of playing on grass from when I reached the Wimbledon final (in 2015) and Birmingham has been a great tournament for me in the past. It’s always fun to play in front of the crowds there.”
