If you’ve been inspired by the brilliance of the tennis stars in action on the courts of SW19, it’s time to put your serve and volley to the test.
Registrations are now being taken for the RLK Edgbaston Priory Tennis tournament which takes place from 16th -21st August on the courts of Edgbaston Priory Club, home to the pre-Wimbledon tournament for the world’s top female tennis players, the Aegon Classic.
The tournament, which is sponsored by Birmingham Law firm, Rubric Lois King, attracts over 300 young players, of all levels and abilities, from across the region each year.
This year there are titles up for grabs for boys and girls from under-8 to under-18. Alongside the junior events there will also be men’s and women’s singles events.
Players eligible to compete range from aspiring professionals such as Jake Hersey, a member of Edgbaston Priory’s high performance squad, who was selected to represent Team GB in the Winter Cup, to Sofia Sheftelia, who simply enjoys tennis as a hobby.
It’s an ideal opportunity to put skills and match play tactics into practice, whatever your ability.
Participation in the event can also lead to future success as it did for former junior open winner, Lloyd Glasspool, who is now aged 21 and recently won the NCAA Doubles Championship in the USA where he is currently studying.
The support of Rubric Lois King has helped grow the event, as Director, Satish Jakhu, explains:
“We are keen to support the Club in encouraging more young people to pick up a racket and get on court. The Junior Open is an ideal way for youngsters to put the techniques they learn on courses into practice, put themselves on the line and experience the thrill of playing in a tournament.”
The website – https://www.edgbastonpriory.com/tournaments/open-tournament/ – is now live to take entries for this event which is open to players of all levels and abilities, from those who are displaying good early matchplay skills to aspiring professionals training in high performance centres.
