Club Junior Lillian Mould seizes the opportunity to win prestigious national tennis title

Lillian Mould, a student at Edgbaston Priory Club’s High-Performance Tennis Centre, won the Under 18 Girls title at the Nike British Junior Tennis Championships this August.

The Junior Championships represent the pinnacle of junior domestic competition, with previous winners of the competition including the likes of Ann Jones, Sue Barker and Naomi Broady.

Lillian, aged 15, is a pupil at Priory School, Edgbaston and divides her time between studying for her GCSEs and training hard at Edgbaston Priory Club’s High-Performance Centre where she is coached by Simon Dickson.

Simon, who himself won the Boys’ title at the age of 16, is one of the world-class coaches working at Edgbaston Priory Club, training many talented and aspiring young tennis players.
In July, Lillian was selected to represent Team GB at the European Olympic Festival in Gyor Hungary and spent the summer holidays competing in various tennis tournaments in Europe and the UK.

Initially a reserve for the Nike Junior Championships in the Under-18 category, a last-minute withdrawal gave Lillian the opportunity to compete. She seized the opportunity and played some of the best tennis of her season to take the title.

Nathan Rooney, Head of Performance, at Edgbaston Priory Club, explains Lillian’s achievement:

”To win a national title at any age is a significant achievement, to win the Under-18 title at the age of 15, makes it all that little bit more special. Lilly and Simon have done a great job in working on her development to date but I know for sure that Lilly has lots more to offer and we are excited to continue working with her in her quest to one-day maximise her full potential.”

Following her achievements this summer, Lilian has received wild cards for two professional tournaments this autumn, giving her further opportunities to compete at the highest level for her age.

Lillian is now back at school, combining her tennis training at Edgbaston Priory Club with her GCSE studies. Speaking on her achievements, she said:

“I’m very pleased with my achievements this summer, the highlights being The Youth Olympics and winning The National Championships.

“I appreciate all who have helped me on my journey, past and present coaches especially Simon Dickson, Edgbaston Priory Club and Priory School for being flexible and supportive with my tennis schedules.

“A big thank you to Wilson Sporting Goods for their ongoing sponsorship.”
