Temperatures rose but the defending champion fell on ladies day at the Aegon Classic

Ladies day was one of the hottest days of the week so far as the grass courts of Edgbaston Priory Club were bathed in glorious sunshine all day.

Defending Champion, Daniela Hantuchova, lost to 43 year-old Kimiko Date-Krumm 6-4, 6-0.   This takes their head-to-head record to 4-2 to Date-Krumm, with this being her first triumph over Hantuchova on grass.

The No. 2 seed, Samantha Stosur, was beaten by fellow Australian, Casey Dellacqua, in three sets, Dellacqua winning 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Top seed Ana Ivanovic is safely through to the Aegon Classic quarter-finals as she defeated American Lauren Davis 6-1, 6-1 in just over an hour.

Third seed Sloane Stephens is also through having beaten fellow American Alison Riske 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-1.

Fourth seed Kirsten Flipkens came from a set behind in her match against the last qualifier standing Aleksandra Wozniak to earn her place in the quarter-finals, beating the Canadian 1-6, 7-5, 6-4.

There was lots of pampering taking place off the court for the ladies with fashion and beauty stalls in the public marquee.  Harvey Nichols Birmingham also hosted and judged the best dressed lady competition with the winner enjoying a luxury pampering package at Harvey Nichols with £250 worth of vouchers to spend in store.
