EDGBASTON PRIORY CLUB AWARDED CLUB OF THE YEAR BY WARWICKSHIRE LTA


Edgbaston Priory Club won five of the ten awards up for grabs at the Warwickshire Lawn Tennis Association Annual Awards ceremony on 24th January, including the most prestigious award of all, the club of the year award. 

The club of the year award was awarded in recognition of the club’s record growth in membership at all levels, our teams’ successes in local and national competitions and the superb coaching programme on offer, encompassing the High Performance Centre.  Edgbaston Priory Club was also commended for retaining the AEGON Classic in the West Midlands and for supporting the schools, clubs and community programmes which surround the event.

• Lloyd Glasspool - Junior Player of the Year

• Luisa Cowper - Senior Player of the Year
 
• Ken Buswell - Veteran Player of the Year

• Under-18 girls’ team - Team of the Year

2009 saw over twenty-five teams representing the club in local and national leagues, with both men’s and ladies’ teams reaching the finals of the National AEGON Team Tennis Premier Leagues.  The club’s ladies’1st team won the Birmingham League and the Warwickshire Inter-League Finals whilst the under-18 girls’ team had a magnificent year, becoming national champions.

The club of the year award carries with it a cheque for £1,000 which will be used to develop further the junior tennis programme at the club.

“The past few years have seen a phenomenal growth in the quality and range of tennis courses on offer here at Edgbaston Priory Club.  We now provide an unrivalled player pathway from junior through to social and on to professional and coaching, as well as hosting the High Performance Centre where talented young tennis players embark on a long-term player development programme to become the Andy Murrays of the future.

“The club of the year award recognises this progress which is the result of the hard work and dedication of the staff and coaches, under the leadership of Racquets Manager, Leyla Ogan, as well as our tennis committee comprising members who volunteer their time to support the tennis programme here at the club.  The hard work is paying off as evidenced by the success of both our teams and individuals in 2009 which really was an incredible year for the club.”
