Appointment of Head Squash Coach

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Mike Edwards as Head Squash Coach of Edgbaston Priory Club with immediate effect.

This is a new role and one that will be based permanently at the club. The key purpose of the role is to develop squash and racketball at the club by increasing participation and membership. Mike will be responsible for all aspects of the club’s squash and racketball programme including teams, leagues, ladders, tournaments and coaching. Mike will also be tasked with developing our existing community programme and partnerships with University Sport Birmingham and England Squash & Racketball.

The club is formulating an ambitious five year strategy to build on recent successes and establish Edgbaston Priory Club as the number one racquets club in the country. Mike will be tasked with formulating a plan to deliver this goal.

Mike is a well respected Level 3 licensed squash coach who coaches some of the country’s top junior players. He has been coaching at the club since 2008 and been responsible for re-establishing a quality junior coaching programme.  Mike has had a positive impact since arriving at the club 18 months ago and we look forward to working with him going forwards.

The role of Squash Development Manager will cease on 5th February 2010 and the club would like to thank Jon Tate for his input over the last two years. This was a jointly funded role with University of Birmingham and has helped strengthen the partnership between the two organisations. Jon Tate will carry on as Squash Development Manager for the University and we look forward to working with him to develop the partnership going forwards.
