A new pair of hands will lift the Maud Watson trophy today

A new pair of hands will lift the Maud Watson Trophy today as World No 12 Karolina Pliskova and World No No 10 Angelique Kerber compete to win the Aegon Classic Birmingham at Edgbaston Priory Club.

Pliskova was the first to secure her spot in the final after overcoming both the weather and a spirited Kristina Mladenovic in straight sets.

Kerber beat fellow German Sabine Lisicki who earlier this week broke a WTA record for the most amount of Aces (27) served in a match.  But it was not to be for former champion, Lisicki, who only served two aces and was beaten 6-3 6-3 by Kerber.

Also up today is the doubles final with Spanish pair Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro up against Czech duo Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka.

Play starts at 1pm on the Ann Jones Centre Court
