Edgbaston Priory Club currently has 10 squash courts and boasts a thriving squash and racketball scene.
Edgbaston Priory is a very different place today than it was in the 1880’s when it moved to its current location. Set in 12 acres of beautiful grounds the private members club now boasts 10 squash courts, 29 tennis courts, heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, outside spa, Technogym equipped fitness facilities, treatment rooms and a licensed bar and restaurant.
2009 was a very successful year for Edgbaston Priory in Squash and Racketball.
The junior programme has doubled in numbers, with around 10 playing at County, Regional or National level including Anthony Graham (current PSA player and U19 British & European Champion), Julianne Courtice (U17 British Champion) and Alicia Mead (U15 National Squad player).
The under 15’s won the Warwickshire League in 2009 and we now have a team in the Junior Mixed National Clubs competition, and hoping to do well in this in 2010.
Senior teams have also done well in 2009 with the club winning the Men’s and Women’s Division One Warwickshire League. Both teams automatically qualified for the National Cup, with our women’s team being crowned Champions, and men’s runners up.
In May 2009, our Ladies National Club Team won the English National Clubs, and then went on to represent England in the European Club Championships.
Edgbaston Priory holds several big events every year including the National Racketball Championships, EPC Junior Open event, EPC Adult Graded Open event and many England Squash and Racketball sanctioned events. We are also co-hosting the 2012 World Masters Event.
2010 will be even more successful!
This will be helped largely due to the number of professional players now based at Edgbaston Priory. Steadily we have been attracting players to the club, and offering a training facility and support for players that are based here full time.
Edgbaston Priory is very excited about the future of Squash and Racketball at the club. We have a strategic plan in place, exciting development plans and are looking at setting up a player pathway to lead into a Performance Programme for Junior and Senior players.
For more information on the programme, please don’t hesitate to contact Mike Edwards, Head Coach. This is open to members and non members, and we would be very keen to hear from you.
