Edgbaston Priory Club Trains Future Tennis Leaders

Tennis Leaders photoSixteen young people underwent a day’s intensive training, under the watchful eye of Racquets Manager, Leyla Ogan, to become Tennis Leaders on 25th January  at Edgbaston Priory Club.

Tennis Leader is a recognised qualification which involves a training assessment, followed by volunteer hours on the coaching programme, after which there is the potential for paid employment.

The Club has been running the Tennis Leader programme for five years and it has proved a hugely successful initiative.   It teaches young people the skills they need to help run a tennis coaching session as well as generic leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork.

As Leyla Ogan says:

“It is the perfect way for many of our juniors to get more involved with the Club and opens up the doors to many opportunities.  Many of our juniors have gone on to work at Wimbledon, become coaches, referees and earned money by helping out at our Kids Camp.  And of course it helps young people stand out when making their university applications and has become a useful earner for many cash-strapped under-graduates.”
