Club hosts Annual Visually Impaired Tennis Tournament

On 10th April the Edgbaston Priory Club held the Annual Visually Impaired Tennis Tournament.

We had 22 players enter this year, 2 more than last year, allowing us to give the players lots of matches.   The Tennis Foundation, the charitable arm of the LTA, funded the tournament and the EPC tournament was one of five that were awarded regional status this year.  The players have to enter at least two of these regional events to be eligible for the national championships – so this is a very prestigious event in the calendar.

Players travelled from as far north as Newcastle and a far south as the Isle of Wight for our event – with many already saying they can’t wait for next year’s event.

Roy Turnham was the winner of the B1 (completely blind) category, with a close 5-3 win against Nikhil Nair. Yvette, our home player, won the consolation event and the doubles event with Roy!

Brenda, Paul and Sarah won the visually impaired categories!

Our thanks to Simon Lancaster EPC coach and members Ed Chapman and Pam Alonzo for helping at the event. They helped to guide the players around the club and a big thanks to those who sponsored the trophies.

If anyone would like to get involved with the event in any way next year please contact Simon;
